FAQs

How is this different to the most popular brands?

sitekind uses a known hypoallergenic material by Leukoplast. While this means we cannot offer the funky colour schemes, it is more comfortable. Designed by myself, I found that even after three days wear, my infusion site has less reaction, such as contact dermatitis from my Tandem infusion sites.

How do I use this?

This system is easy to use, and likely familiar if you have used something like this before.

1) Apply the barrier patch first on clean, ideally with an alcohol skin wipe. Take care to ensure the barrier patch is facing in the correct direction for your preference.

2) Align the cannula application kit over the barrier patch, ensuring the coverage is as close to the patch as possible and the needle of the cannula kit is within the patch’s aperture (hole).

3) Affix the cannula as per the infusion kit’s instructions.

4) Ensure the tubing is disconnected from the cannula (as per cannula directions) apply the over patch (larger patch in the kit) over the cannula, taking time to align. Once applied, rub your fingers lightly around the site to form a nice adhesion.

5) Get on with your day (or night!).

Are the sitekind kits sterile & safe?

As with other brands, the requirement for these to be sterile does not apply. There is an aperture for the infusion kit needle to pass through. This product is designed as an improvised solution and therefore cannot provide any guarantee. However, testing has given positive feedback on site comfort and longevity.

Latex?

No, never. I aim to provide a hypoallergenic, affordable solution.

Who?

Hi, I’m James Blackwood. I have been diabetic for over twenty years, after switching to insulin pump therapy, I developed some horrid reactions to the infusion sites. In this time I had been using barrier sprays, barrier patches and over patches on my Tandem T-slim x2 system. While these helped, they ultimately left me with irritation still. After a lot of trial and error, I settled on the current Leukoplast material.

As a product designer and web/software engineer running a small digital agency, I applied my experince in these areas to develop a simple, no frills product for us all.

The most popular brands still cost a fair amount of cash, upwards of £20 for a pack of over patches and then separate purchases for the albeit, reusable barrier patches. For me, while this is a solution, it’s not ideal. I felt that with all the other expenses incurred by diabetics (even with the NHS help) I wanted to create a simple package that lasts around a month and includes the over patches and barrier in one go for a low price.

Do you make infusion kits for other devices?

This is the plan! Contact me on [email protected] to discuss your requirements. As this product (hopefully) gains traction, I will do my best to cater for all pumps. In the meantime, I will be tracking down what I can to design and develop other kits.
